The History of Pink and Pink Laptops

All girls love the color pink, well, most of them. This love of pink has now infected technology as recently seen in a rise of pink laptops. They are everywhere. I understand that because girls, especially the younger ones, recognize with this color that computer manufacturers must originate products to suit in order to tap the market. But why pink? To help shed some light on this phenomenon lets take a look at a minuscule bit of the history and some of the alleged psychological effects of this color.

Ribbon Colors For Cancer Awareness

At one time the color pink was only seen in the flowers, a summertime sunset, and the blush of the cheeks in an embarrassed moment. Way back when, artists used an herb called Madder (Rubia tinctorum) in order to originate the color red. It was very difficult to make this oil based dye and was therefore more expensive than other colors. Red is a great color related with raw force and passion. By toning down the masculine force of red with the purity of white we get pink, a more subtle passion, a feminine, less aggressive force. This was possibly one of the reasons the color pink became so prominent in Elizabethan era clothing. In fact, the "Sumptuary Laws" of Elizabethan England dictated who could wear the color pink as it was a symbol of the wealth and collective status of the person wearing it.

Pink is related with joy and happiness. Where red is deep love, pink is affection, caring with a touch of immaturity. It is said to stimulate vigor and confidence. It can also symbolize feminine health as depicted by the pink ribbon which is the international symbol for the awareness of and fight against breast cancer. The In design, pink tends to be related with sweetness, as in sugary delights like candy, donuts, and bubblegum.

A person can be tickled pink; happy, in the pink; healthy, or finding pink elephants; an non threatening alcoholic hallucination, and your smallest finger is the pinkie. The American dream is often exemplified by owning minuscule pink houses but watch out for the pink slip, the gentle, indirect way of being terminated!

It all adds up to a feeling of gentle, positive, sugar and spice and everything nice kind of thing, and a pink laptop just brings it all to the twenty first century. Trendy, playful and yet sophisticated; why wouldn't a girl want one?
